The Irish Parachute Club was founded in 1956 by an adventure sports enthusiast and Irish skydiving pioneer called Freddie Bond. His vision for the club was to promote parachuting in Ireland and basically get more people skydiving. In the words of the present Chief Club Instructor; Colman Brouder: "He wanted this to be a fun business not a money-making machine."
Half a century later, as the Irish Parachute Club approaches its 50 year anniversary; it is still run on this sound ethos. Not only is the club a non-profit organisation, ploughing all its funds back into the purchase and maintenance of equipment, it is also highly safety conscious.
Colman proudly boasts that the club has one of the best safety records in the world. The IPC now supports about 100 members and has 4 full-time planes including a new Pilatus Turbo Porter which can ascend to 14,000 ft in just 14 minutes.
